Little Gabby

Gabby is 2 1/2 and was born with Downs Syndrome. She just learned to walk 2 weeks ago, and this was a praise God for all her Therapy she does Weekly. She has 2 Occupational therapies a week and 1 physical therapy a week. She communicates mostly with sign language but works with her speech therapist weekly to learn more words. She can be like most children stubborn and the terrible twos, but due to her developmental delay she works every other week with a Developmental specialist to help bring her learning to a higher level. She is a sweet little girl who loves to smile and always keeps a good disposition. She had heart surgery at 4 months and still sees many doctors like Physical Medicine rehab, Dental, Opthamoligist, EENT, because children with Downs have delays in many of their systems. Regardless, she is a loving child of God who wants to play and blow kisses. We are blessed to have her in our life. The Downs Syndrome Guild ( DSG )of Dallas has been instrumental in helping her family cope with a child with special needs and providing classes and activities for children with Downs.

The DSG is having their annual Buddy Walk™ in Dallas on Sunday, November 8, 2009. The DSG is an organization that is committed to being the leader in enhancing the quality of life, and realizing the potential of all people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk™ is designed to promote awareness and inclusion for people with Down Syndrome, as well as to raise money to support local and national education, research and advocacy initiatives. Needless to say, it promotes a cause that is close to the family's heart.

Considering abortion?

So, I had a conversation with an 18-year old the other day. She was pregnant and was considering abortion. She currently lives with her boyfriend, and she does not get along with her mother. She told her parents that she would not get pregnant and now that she is in the state that she explicitly said she would not be in, she wants an abortion.

Does this poor girl realize that 84% of women who have had an abortion wish they never did?? It does such a number to your psyche and to your physical body. It is truly a devastating way to rid of your inconvenience. Some people compare abortions to having your appendix removed...it's just a simple surgery and once it's over, you never have to even think about it, they say. If that's the case, why are there soooo many "After Abortion Grievance" programs and clinics and specialists? Why are there not any "After Appendix Removal Grievance" programs? Abortions do not just kill the unborn child. It takes with it a part of the woman's pride and her ability to love and even possibly her ability to carry future children.

If you are reading this and are considering abortion, please please...I urge you to contact a pregnancy center who will help you sort through the details. You really need to be well-informed before making such a drastic, life-altering decision.

My First Poop Story

So, my little one is now at an age where she says, "poo poo?" after she poo's in her diaper. So, I figure it might be time to try and potty train her. So, the other day after her breakfast I could tell she needed to poo. Thinking it would be a perfect time to put her on the toilet, I removed her pants and diaper and sat her on the potty, and I squatted next to her. She smiled and showed interest in the toilet paper and swung her legs and all. But, she would not poop. I tried to immitate the pushing sound you make when you're constipated, thinking it would help her understand what I'm trying to get her to do. But, alas...all that happened is she also mimicked the sound and smiled. Within a few minutes, she was ready to come down. BUT I KNEW SHE HAD TO POOP. WHY WOULDN'T SHE POOP??? She was so restless, so I took her down and put her on the floor. I looked at her for a second...she was wearing no diaper.

Should I run and go get her wipes? It's all the way on the opposite end of the house...ya, I'll just hurry.

So, I quickly went to grab the wipes and on my way back, I saw her standing several feet away from the bathroom in front of our bedroom door in a half standing/half crouching poop position!!

OH NO!!! Would she poop right there? Would the floor get soiled?

I quickly grabbed her and ran to the bathroom, thinking all the while whether or not the quick swooping motion had caught her off guard and maybe that would prevent her from actually pooing. Or would it have any affect at all? Would she just spill her poo as I'm running across the den? AAHHH!!

I finally reached the bathroom entrance, scooted in to place her firmly on the toilet and just as her bum reached the potty seat...PLOP. Thank God! The poo made it into the toilet! OH. EM. GEE!

What a morning!

Top 3 reasons NOT to get an abortion

3. The abortion doctor can accidentally tear your uterus - the tools they use to perform an abortion are long, thick, sharp or a combination of the three. In the most common abortion procedure, multiple sticks of laminara (absorbant dilators made from plants) are inserted into your cervix to help stretch the opening (or a series of increasingly thick dilators are inserted). The doctor will then use a vacuum to suck out the baby. In addition, the doctor may insert a curette (a loop-shaped knife) through your cervix into your uterus and scrape out any remaining parts of the baby - this is where you take a chance of having your uterus torn. The doctor does this procedure blindly, using only his hands as a guide.

2. You'll always regret having an abortion; you'll never regret NOT having one - A study by a group of experts in Spain has revealed that 80% of women who have had an abortion suffer symptoms of depression, while 40% have considered suicide. Other symptoms that affect women who suffer from Post-Abortion Syndrome. These include sexual dysfunction (40%), drug abuse, especially among adolescents (30%), behavioral changes (60%) or irritability (70%). “The suicide rate is between 6 and 7 time higher than in women who give birth,” the study finds. 1. You could die - I know of someone who's life ended on the abortion table.

Abortion - it's still debated

Why is abortion is still a hugely debated topic? Why is America so split on the issue? I think it's because the liberal side sees it from the woman's perspective and the conservative side sees it from the unborn child's perspective. The sad but interesting fact is that abortion, in its early stages, never linked the abortion procedure to a woman's right. Rather, it was self-seeking revolutionists who found a way to advocate abortion to further their cause:

Margaret Sanger, a prominent feminist, wanted to promote her ideas of eugenics, economics and sexual liberation by advocating abortion. Her organization went underground after eugenics became unfavorable following the Holocaust. It resurfaced later as the Planned Parenthood Federation. Sanger and other zealots of the feminist movement tried desperately to tie the agenda of abortion to it. (Elasah Drogin, Margaret Sanger, Father of Modern Society)

Then you have an abortion doctor, "Dr. Bernard Nathanson, who says that in the 1960s, he and his fellow abortion-rights strategists deliberately linked abortion to the woman's issue so it could be furthered not on its own merits but on the merits of women's rights. Abortion rode on the coattails of women's rights." (Randy Alacron, Why Pro-Life?)

How horrible is it that the murder of an innocent unborn child is now popularly believed to be an issue of women's rights, a cause that was pushed in a time when women did not even have the right to vote? I'm telling you, it's the agenda of the self-seeking. And the mass public is blindly & innocently following.
